Websites, workspaces, and the CMS

Documentation / Getting started

A website is the content and settings for one site. A workspace is the production boundary around one or more websites, with its own storage and administration scope. The CMS is the interface used to administer the websites you can access.

Do not assume that access to one website gives you access to every website in a workspace, or that different workspaces share one production deployment. Workspace provisioning and domain configuration are administrative activities, not page-editing steps.

Confirm your editing context

Before creating or saving content:

  1. Check the selected website in the CMS.
  2. Select the intended content language.
  3. Open the correct collection or page list.
  4. Check the page title and address before opening its editor.

The CMS interface language and website content language serve different purposes. Changing the language of the admin interface does not translate page content. Translated pages retain the source page identity while storing language-specific content and paths.

Production content comes from the workspace's production storage. A local development copy is a separate content source. Seeing a page in local development does not establish that it exists publicly, and changing local content does not publish it to the website.

Check the result in the right place

After saving, reopen the same website and language to confirm the content persisted. Then check the visitor-facing address separately. An authenticated editor view can differ from what a signed-out visitor receives.

See Languages and translations for language selection, and Site administration and domains for website identity, access, and addresses.
