Jurisdictions and regional settings

Documentation / Legal and privacy with LEX8

LEX8 has several regional inputs with different purposes. The company's jurisdiction selects legal-generation clauses. Data residency describes processing arrangements. Cookie region settings influence visitor consent behavior. Choosing one does not automatically settle the others or determine which laws apply to your business.

Set the document context

In Legal Documents Wizard > Company > Jurisdiction, the current choices are Quebec, EU, USA, Canada (Federal), Brazil (LGPD), and Other. Choose with qualified advice where needed. A mailing address alone may not describe every jurisdiction relevant to a website's visitors and processing.

Set Data Residency using the actual storage arrangements. Review cross-region destinations, transfer mechanisms, and supplemental measures under governance. These answers describe your practices; they do not move storage, configure vendors, or create a transfer agreement.

Review visitor-region behavior

Under LEX8 > Cookie Settings, Region Override offers Auto-detect, Quebec, EU, and USA. Automatic detection uses hosting-provided geographic headers. The runtime can combine regional rules, and the Quebec flag can add Quebec rules beyond a visitor's detected location.

The USA override does not automatically identify California. Do not use it as a shortcut for testing every United States requirement. Likewise, a single local browser test cannot establish what visitors in all regions will receive.

Save and verify deliberately

Save Cookie Settings persists draft questionnaire settings without regenerating legal pages. Check the applied runtime configuration after the appropriate reviewed generation or settings process; saved answers and existing generated metadata can differ.

Test banner choices, legal links, language behavior, and recorded consent in the intended environment. A status screen indicates implemented checks, not legal certification. If geography is unknown, record that limitation instead of inventing a detected region. See legal and privacy and site administration.
