LEX8 overview and limits
Documentation / Legal and privacy with LEX8
LEX8 combines questionnaire-based legal generation with consent-related settings and audit tools. Open LEX8 in the selected website's admin. Its sections are Overview, Legal Documents Wizard, Cookie Settings, Audit Logs, and Compliance Status.
What the module does
The questionnaire records company identity, a privacy officer, collection points, third-party integrations, profiling, data residency, governance, and recourse information. Generation produces Privacy Policy and Terms of Service pages using those answers. English and French have legal templates; other configured languages use the workspace's translation provider.
Generated documents receive a version and update metadata. The service adds references to the legal pages in footer navigation while preserving unrelated settings and links. Review the rendered footer, especially if a custom shell supplies its own footer region.
Audit Logs can retrieve consent and automated-decision records for a date range and export them. These records are evidence of recorded events, not proof that every external service obeyed the intended policy.
What it does not establish
LEX8 does not verify your contracts, actual retention jobs, processor locations, or every script embedded on the site. Choosing a jurisdiction or turning on a compliance option does not establish that the business meets all legal requirements. Compliance Status is an implementation checklist, not a legal opinion or certification.
Generation also does not create an unpublished document-review stage. Save & Generate Legal Pages writes public legal pages. Plan professional review and site visibility accordingly before using it.
If a field is unclear, save a questionnaire draft and gather the missing facts rather than selecting a convenient default. Have qualified counsel assess the final text and practices for the relevant jurisdictions. See legal and privacy with LEX8 and site administration.
