Editable areas and locked template content

Documentation / Templates and reusable content

A template-bound page is not an unrestricted copy of its template. The template owns the shared structure. Named editable areas hold the content that belongs to the individual page.

Edit the permitted area

Open the bound page in the managed editor and select an editable area. Add or edit supported content inside that area. The editor exposes insertion points and block toolbars there while withholding them from protected content.

On template-bound pages, section structure remains locked. A section containing an editable area can still allow work inside that area, but this does not authorize moving or deleting the shared section itself. To change the common structure, edit the template.

The template's Editable block has a code. The page stores content under the matching code, and rendering inserts that content into the corresponding template slot. Preserve codes when maintaining a template that already has dependent pages.

Header and override limits

A locked template header retains the template's structure and presentation. The page can have supported media-related overrides, and the editor may show an image-focused settings panel instead of full layout controls. Do not interpret that reduced panel as a defect.

Permitted section settings are stored separately from page-specific editable children. The renderer does not accept replacement children through a section override. Template-controlled content must remain sourced from the template.

Validate ownership after saving

Reopen the page and check that local copy persists while shared content remains intact. Test another bound page to confirm that a page-specific edit did not become a template-wide change. If an editable area appears empty, inspect its code before re-entering content.
