Creating a blog collection

Documentation / Blogs

A blog starts with a dated collection, not with a particular page design. The collection supplies the shared address prefix and dated publishing behavior; its posts remain editable pages.

Create the collection

Open the collections screen and choose New collection. Enter Name, set Base path to an address such as /news, and select Dated (blog/changelog) under Type. Enable Enable RSS feed if the collection should provide a feed, then choose Save.

Choose a base path that you can keep. Changing it later can change every post's public address. The configuration rejects a base path already used by another collection.

Add the first post and listing

Select the new collection in the pages area and choose Add page. Enter the title and an optional slug. Open the resulting page to write its header and body, then set Date, Summary, and availability in page settings.

Create or edit a page that will introduce the blog. Insert a collection listing, choose this collection, and select a suitable preset. A collection configuration does not by itself write a landing-page introduction or guarantee a navigation link to the archive.

Validate before adding more posts

Save the listing page and open a post link as a visitor. Confirm that the address contains the intended base path, the post is public, and its date is not in the future. If you enabled RSS, verify the feed offered for the collection rather than assuming a universal feed address.

See Collections and content trees for collection structure and Pages and navigation for linking the archive from the site menu.
