Post summaries, cover images, and sharing previews
A post can be represented in a blog listing, on its own page, and in an external sharing preview. These surfaces use related metadata, but they do not all use the same fields.
Check the summary field
Dated listings read pageSummary, with compatibility fallbacks for older content. The current native Summary control instead saves navSummary; it does not update that canonical listing field. If the listing excerpt does not change, ask an administrator to inspect the saved page and use a supported page update for pageSummary.
Describe the article's subject and what the reader will learn. A minimal or title-only preset may omit summaries even when the correct field is populated. The SEO description is separate and can override summary-based metadata fallbacks.
Choose the cover and social image
Blog listing thumbnails come from the post's header image, with compatibility handling for older post data. Changing the page's social image does not replace that header image or its listing thumbnail.
In the SEO tab, set the social image when the sharing crop should differ from the visible header. The engine chooses the page social image first, then the header image, then the site social image. Supported values are HTTP(S) addresses or site-relative image paths.
Cloudflare Images sharing previews use a 1200 by 630 JPEG crop. Other image sources retain their original URL without invented dimensions.
Validate each surface
Reload the saved post and its listing, inspect the rendered metadata, and test the shared address in the destination service's preview tool where available. External services can cache older previews; a correct page change does not force an immediate refresh there.
