Adding a language

Documentation / Languages and translations

Adding a language makes it available for content management. It does not generate a complete translated website or ensure that every page has a destination in that language.

Add the language

Open Languages for the intended website. Choose Add Language, then select a language from the available picker. The screen prevents adding the main language again and removes languages already selected from the available choices.

Language choices save automatically after a short delay. Wait for the saved result, check for errors, and reload before beginning a large translation task. The current native picker offers English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and Korean.

Create content deliberately

Start with the homepage and a small set of important pages. Use page-level translation controls or Translate missing where appropriate. Automatic generation depends on an available provider connection, so a failed translation does not necessarily mean the language configuration failed.

Review Custom translation instructions if you need consistent terminology or brand-name treatment. Saving those instructions is a separate action from selecting the language.

Include shared content, collection entry pages, and legal pages in the translation plan. External embeds and images containing text may require separate provider or asset changes.

Check visitor access

Open a translated page directly and use its language selector. Confirm that an existing public translation appears and that missing versions are not presented as completed content. Inspect localized navigation, metadata, and important internal links.

Do not launch a language solely because it appears in the settings table. See Pages and navigation, Legal and privacy with LEX8, and Search visibility and sharing for the remaining checks.
