Create a reusable template for service pages
Separate shared content from page content
Build a template when several service pages need the same structure. Keep common information in the template and provide explicit editable areas for service-specific explanations. A template is a live dependency: later template edits can affect pages already bound to it.
You need administrator access, two approved sample services, and a list of content that must stay identical. For a repair workshop, the shared content might explain the assessment process, while each page supplies its own repair description. Decide whether header presentation should be shared or remain page-specific.
Start on a private website or with non-sensitive test content. Identify the pages that will use the template and their current backups before applying it broadly. Custom bodies are not supported on template-bound pages, so use native design for this guide.
Create and test the template
- Open Templates, enter a recognizable template name, and choose Create. Use Edit on the resulting template to open its dedicated editor. Confirm that you are editing the template, not one of its future service pages.
- Build the real header and shared sections. Use native text, images, rows, and buttons as appropriate. Shared copy should be accurate for every service that will use the template. Do not put one service's exceptions into content that all pages inherit.
- Add an Editable block inside a section for each area that pages should supply individually. Editable blocks are available in template editing. Their codes identify the content slots; keep those codes stable after pages begin using them. Rename cautiously because page content is associated with its slot code.
- Where needed, review the template's Lock column 1 and corresponding column controls. The header has Lock this header in template. Lock only content that truly belongs to the shared template, and leave intended service-specific areas editable. Save the template explicitly.
- Open the first service page's Page Settings and select the new template under Page template override. Save, open the rendered page, and enter service-specific content in its editable areas. Retain the page's canonical title and other metadata. Applying a template is not an instruction to copy template text into every page manually.
- Repeat with a second service page containing different content lengths. Check that both preserve their own editable text while the shared structure remains consistent. Then make one small, approved template correction and inspect both pages again.
Verify the editing boundary
Confirm that an ordinary page editor can change its intended slots without altering locked template content. Check short and long service descriptions on a phone, including buttons and images. A layout that works for one short paragraph may not work for a full service explanation.
If content seems missing after changing a template, compare slot codes and the saved template before rewriting the page. Do not remove locks merely to bypass an unclear content boundary. Review templates and reusable content, page anatomy, and saving and recovery before applying changes to more pages.
