Prepare page metadata and social sharing previews

Guides

Gather the page's actual message

Prepare metadata for a finished page, not for content you intend to add later. You need administrator access, the exact page and language, an approved summary, and an image you have permission to publish.

Record the page's main subject, audience, and useful next action in plain language. For a workshop service page, explain the repair offered and the relevant location only if the page supports those facts. Avoid keyword lists, invented awards, or claims that differ from the visible content.

Keep the visible page title, navigation label, SEO title, and summary distinct in purpose. They may share words, but they serve different surfaces. Decide whether this page should be indexable before changing search settings.

Edit the fields that control the result

  1. Open the page's Page Settings and confirm the current language. Review Page Title, Page Subtitle, Nav Title, and Summary. Make the visible heading useful to readers, the navigation label concise, and the summary suitable for a listing rather than a second headline.
  2. In the page's SEO area, enter SEO Title and SEO Description where an explicit search presentation is needed. Use a readable title and a factual sentence describing the page. A search engine may choose a different snippet; these fields are inputs, not a ranking or display guarantee.
  3. Set Sharing image in the SEO controls if this page needs its own preview image. Use an HTTP(S) URL or a valid site-relative path. Without a page override, the engine can use the header image and then the site's sharing image. Check that the selected image remains understandable when cropped.
  4. Review Exclude this page from search indexing. This requests noindex behavior; it does not protect the page from visitors. Public and direct-link pages are indexable by default unless another applicable rule excludes them. Use access controls, not metadata, for confidential content.
  5. If the page URL changes, review its URL, Redirect From (old URLs → this page), and existing redirect settings. Keep the final destination stable and avoid loops. Do not rename a well-linked page merely to insert extra keywords.
  6. Save the metadata. For an existing multilingual site, repeat the review for each intended language variant. Secondary-language pages do not automatically borrow the main-language site description when localized copy is absent.

Inspect what the engine emits

Open the normal page URL outside the editor. Check the browser title and inspect page source for the description, canonical URL, Open Graph title, and sharing-image URL. Open the image directly to confirm it is publicly reachable. Cloudflare Images previews use a 1200 by 630 JPEG crop; external images retain their original URL without guessed dimensions.

Use a sharing service's own preview debugger if available, remembering that it may cache earlier values. A saved CMS field alone does not confirm that an external preview has refreshed. Verify indexability and sitemap inclusion separately from menu visibility. Read search visibility and sharing, pages and navigation, and languages and translations.
