Image sizing, cropping, and alternative text

Documentation / Media, forms, and integrations

The same image can appear uncropped in a content block, cropped in a listing card, and cropped again in a social preview. Choose an image that works in its actual placement rather than judging only the original file.

Check the displayed size

A regular image block fills its available width and normally keeps its natural aspect ratio. Its surrounding section, row, or column determines the available space. Where enabled, the image can open in a full-size viewer.

Headers, galleries, and listing presets can use different fitting rules. Adjust their relevant design controls or prepare a better-composed source file. The basic upload dialog is not a verified destructive crop editor, so do not look there for a universal crop tool.

Cloudflare Images sources can receive responsive delivery variants. External image URLs do not automatically gain every transformation provided by the configured image service.

Write useful descriptive text

In the managed image insertion dialog, the optional image title is used for both the inserted image's title and alternative text. Write a concise description appropriate to that use, not a filename or a list of search keywords. Check the saved output if your design requires distinct title and alternative text, since that simple dialog does not offer two independent fields.

Important instructions should remain in nearby page text rather than existing only inside an image. Background imagery should not carry information that is unavailable elsewhere.

Validate every relevant crop

Save and reload, inspect a narrow screen, and open the full-size view if used. For social images, check the separate 1200 by 630 crop rather than assuming it matches the page image.
